18.01.2016
Famous for its excellent hospitality and long-standing tourism industry, the Emilia Romagna regions attracts thousands of tourists from all around the world every year. The versatile, excellent tourist proposals, the natural heritage, famous traditional cuisine and vast range of attractions are all foundation stones for the success of tourism in Emilia Romagna, and over the years the region has created a perfectly balanced marriage of quality seaside resorts, clubs, hotels and restaurants, and the amazing natural attractions that distinguish the entire region.

Given its natural morphology the region has a beautiful coastline, and some of the most famous art cities can easily be reached from there or the surrounding countryside and rolling green foothills of the Emilia Apennine chain, and these are just a few of the reasons why enthusiastic cyclists consider this one of their favourite destinations. Bicycle touring has been gradually gaining in popularity in Italy and has led certain tourist areas to adapt to this new type of tourist, in order to offer them a more complete package. In fact Emilia Romagna focuses great attention on specific services such as technical assistance for their bikes, bike hire, customized packages for cycle tourists, pedestrian tracks and cycle trails.

Large numbers of cycle tourists have special awareness and sensitivity towards nature and uncontaminated landscapes, which is why ten cycle trails have been created around the province of Piacenza through to Romagna. Named the “Park cycle trails” because they pass through nine regional parks and the natural detention basin of the River Secchia, travellers can discover the natural beauty and landscapes that range from the plain to the rolling hills. The itineraries are classified according to difficulty and time needed to complete the stages along the way. All the itineraries are equipped with structures and facilities for cycle lovers, backed up by a precise information system using signs, easily obtained brochures and the online website,

Even the famous art cities in Emilia Romagna and fascinating surroundings can be visited by bike as the region is perfectly tuned to cycling needs: in the Emilia section, cities like Piacenza, Parma, Reggio Emilia, Modena and Bologna have numerous cycle trails, various reasonably priced bike hire stations and a vast choice of itineraries to discover the surrounding area. Furthermore Ferrara, nicknamed the “bike city”, has numerous trails from the elegant richly renaissance town of Ferrara itself through its province to visit the Ferrara coastline and wander around the Comacchio Lidos. Romagna also takes great care of cyclists, with Faenza, Forlì and Cesena ready to welcome them with open arms. Let’s take Ravenna for example, which is tailor made for cyclists given its natural morphology, flat and not very extensive it can be visited with ease and includes some exceptionally beautiful areas in its province, like the trails in the North Lidos of the Po Delta Park, with the typical flora and fauna. A part of Rimini is also dedicated to cyclists, with a cycle trail running along the famous seafront as far as Riccione. Alongside the renowned coastal and sea areas, the inland also gives cyclists a wonderful experience of nature and good food combined!

This all makes Emilia Romagna a fantastic region for any sort of holiday, perhaps discovering it by bike in close contact with the local setting, landscape and nature, visiting sites and itineraries far from the madding crowd. The region also has excellent facilities for outdoor holidays in campsites and holiday villages that offer entertainment, relaxation, tours and excursions. A richer ecofriendly way to spend a holiday. A fantastic way to pedal around this precious region steeped in local traditions and the atmosphere and history of the most generous of Italian areas.
